TOY NEWS FOR 12/15/2012 - HASBRO - ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN "POWER WEBS" ASSORTMENT

I hope these are for real little kids, otherwise it looks like Hasbro is moving away from the collector's market (as many feared they would do in 2013) and more in the direction of moms and dads buying stuff for Jr. at Walmart just to shut him up while they finish their shopping.

When Kenner first introduced the 3.75" Star Wars figure in 1977, it was something new and cool, and they featured a 5-point articulation (neck, sholders, hips). Then, in 1982, Hasbro came along and blew them away with the articulation of  their GI Joe figures, which they improved again in 1983.

Now, here we are in 2012, and Hasbro is taking us back to 1977 with this shitty 5-point articulation. Oh, but wait-- it's okay because the figure includes some ridiculous over-sized weapon! Or, the figure is "just for kids" so the articulation doesn't matter.

Bullshit.

I was a kid once and I remember how much I loved playing with my GI Joes and how much the articulation and realistic weapons very much mattered. This new shit method that toy companies have of "put out the cheapest toy and try to get the most money as fast as we can" is why the toy market is in the toilet. It's why it's a far, far distant second to video games. Toy companies just don't give a shit. It's not like the 60's, 70's and 80's when these companies competed against one another using quality as their main tool. We are living in a time where the biggest toy companies make the worst toys, and as a student of "toy history", that's a damn shame.

Here's the new junk from Hasbro...
